Agriculture not only drives our state’s economy, it also feeds and clothes our population. As such, there is an immense and immediate need for highly skilled communications professionals with a strong base of agricultural knowledge to share news, resources, and other information with the world at large. As a student in ABAC’s bachelor of science in agricultural communication program, you will combine in-depth studies of communications theory and practices with selections from ABAC’s wide agricultural programs and courses.

After graduation, you will be ready to move into a career in agricultural news and broadcasting, sales, agricultural publishing or to serve as a communications or public relations specialist for agricultural and natural resource focused businesses, government or nonprofit agencies, or other organizations.

What You Will Study:

You will receive the same phenomenal general education core that all ABAC students study in their first two years as a Stallion. In these classes, you will learn and work alongside students from every single major on campus, gaining insight from and sharing experiences with a diverse cross-section of the student body. In your major areas of study, your coursework will combine courses from the School of Arts & Science’s Department of English and Communications with courses from the School of Agriculture. Within the School of Agriculture, you will select from a wide range of courses that will allow you to build as broad or as specialized a knowledge base as you wish to get you onto the path to the career of your choice.
Your coursework will include:
  • Agribusiness and agricultural communication
  • Writing and Editing
  • Visual and online communication platforms
  • Special courses on communicating specialized topics such as scientific information or policy issues
  • Selections from the School of Agriculture’s courses on topics including:
    • Plant or animal science
    • Crop production
    • Agribusiness practices
    • Natural resource management, forestry, or wildlife
    • Horticulture, landscaping, and turf science
    • Agricultural technology
    • Soil science and pest management
    • Livestock production
    • Agriculture policy

Career Paths:

With your bachelor’s degree, you will be started on a path to a number of rewarding careers or areas of
interest, including:
  • Agricultural news writing or editing
  • Agricultural public relations for government or private sector organizations
  • Scientific or technical writing for agricultural entities or publications
  • Marketing and promotion of agricultural products and services
  • Advocacy for agricultural or conservation organizations
  • Digital communications specialist for agricultural topics
