The Department of Agricultural Education and Communication is dedicated to connecting people with agriculture and natural resources through education and communication. Our mission revolves around cultivating the intellectual and professional development of our students to make a positive impact in the communities where they will live and work.
The Department offers Bachelor of Sciences degrees in Agricultural Education (with tracks in Agricultural Studies and Education) and Agricultural Communication. A Minor in Agricultural Education is also offered for students enrolled in other degree programs.
Degrees and Programs
Agricultural Education (B.S.)
Agricultural Education prepares students to work in an education-related career. The wide variety of courses allow students to specialize in agriculture and natural resources while learning about the education profession through on-campus laboratories and training facilities. Instruction is also provided in curriculum development, instructional methods, community programs, and other content courses designed for future teachers and community educators. Track options allow students to choose a curriculum that will prepare them for a career in an educational environment through the school system, Cooperative Extension, and more.
Agricultural Communication (B.S.)
In coordination with ABAprograms/school-agriculture-natural-resources/bs-agricultural-communicationC’s rich agricultural education history, the Agricultural Communication major prepares students to work in industries with a focus on production agriculture. Graduates will learn the communication skills necessary to gain success working at industry publications and broadcasting, chemical sales, and management, or to serve as communications and PR specialists for agricultural commodity organizations and businesses among an ever-growing list of career options.

Through partnerships with Murray State University (MSU) and the University of Tennessee (UT), Knoxville ABAC Agricultural Education and Communication majors can earn credits that will be applied to graduate school at either institution! MSU and UT both have online options. Contact the Department for more information!
- The Stallion-Racer Accelerated Agreement provides ABAC -SANR students within the School of Agriculture and Natural Resources can earn up to 9 credit hours during their undergraduate degree when completing their Master’s degree through Murray State University. Through this agreement, students can choose to major in Agricultural Education, Ag Business/Ag Economics, Sustainable Agriculture, Veterinary Hospital Management.
- The Stallion-Volunteer Accelerated Agreement is focused on Agricultural Education and Agricultural Communication. Students can earn up to 6 hours of credit toward their MS degree while at undergraduate at ABAC. ABAC students within the majors can take courses that UT will recognize as graduate credit once enrolled in their MS degree program in the Department of Agricultural Leadership, Education, and Communication.
